Born in Phoenix, Arizona, and deeply rooted in his Serbian heritage, Aleksander Subotic has emerged as a powerful and innovative force in the world of dance. Trained at the School of Mystic Ballet under the mentorship of his father, Goran Subotic, Aleksander’s artistic journey includes rigorous training and prestigious scholarships at some of the world’s leading institutions, including Harid Conservatory, American Ballet Theater, and Miami City Ballet, where he was personally invited by Edward Villella.
Aleksander holds a Master’s Degree in Performing Arts, a Vocational Degree in Electrical Engineering, as well as an ETC Master’s Degree in Stage Lighting Engineering, Design, and Sound Design. In addition to his performing career, he serves as Director of Social Media Content and Web Presence for MB Creative and Mystic Dark Room, integrating his technical skills with his artistic expertise.
Since joining Mystic Ballet in 2012, Aleksander has built a diverse and versatile repertoire, performing works by world-renowned choreographers such as Sidra Bell, Jozsef Czaba Hajzer, Brian Enos, Lauren Edson, Gabrielle Lamb, Austin McCormick, Stephan Thoss, Sergei Vanaev, and extensively collaborating with his father, Goran Subotic. His standout performances have received critical acclaim, particularly in Mystic Ballet’s productions of Swan Lake, Transit of Venus, and What About Me?
In a review for The Day, dance critic Sharma Howard praised Aleksander’s stage presence:
“Tall, regal, and thundering with the conflicting emotions of the prince character, Aleksander Subotic commanded the stage with both an animal magnetism and the soaring, ethereal ideal of a man. Tender and attentive to his partner, Subotic displayed an adept command of artistic interpretation impressive for a young dancer.”
Aleksander’s career extends far beyond New England stages. He has performed and toured internationally at major venues including Jacob’s Pillow, Foxwoods Resort Casino, MGM Grand Theater, and abroad in Japan, Germany, Serbia, Nicaragua, and others. His global teaching experience includes conducting master classes and TIC Technique workshops across Europe, Japan, and Australia, bringing his unique approach to contemporary movement to a worldwide audience.
In 2015, with the establishment of Mystic Dark Room, Aleksander and his father co-created an innovative series of conceptual productions, including NOTTOBe, GRAB, Flash!, Nutcracker Spectacular, and The Little Mermaid, which have captivated audiences internationally.
In parallel to his performance career, Aleksander is a Master Teacher and educator in Performing Arts, specializing in the TIC Technique, a methodology he has dedicated years to developing and refining. He regularly teaches at the School of Mystic Ballet, MB Creative Company, and conducts specialized workshops internationally.
In 2016, Aleksander advanced to the position of Assistant Artistic Director at Mystic Ballet, and by 2021, he was appointed Artistic Director, solidifying his leadership and creative vision for the company. His continuing work reflects his profound commitment to pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance while nurturing future generations of artists on both national and international stages.
