Born in Phoenix, Arizona, and shaped by his Serbian roots, Aleksander Subotic is a dynamic force in the world of dance. Trained at the School of Mystic Ballet under the mentorship of Goran Subotic, Aleksander's journey has been marked by rigorous training and prestigious scholarships at institutions such as Harid Conservatory, American Ballet Theater, and Miami City Ballet—where he received a personal invitation from Edward Villella.
Joining Mystic Ballet in 2012, Aleksander's repertoire is a testament to his versatility, encompassing works by renowned choreographers such as Sidra Bell, Jozsef Czaba Hajzer, Brian Enos, Lauren Edson, Gabrielle Lamb, Austin McCormick, Stephan Thoss, Sergei Vanaev, and, notably, his collaborations with his father, Goran Subotic. His performances have garnered critical acclaim, particularly in Mystic Ballet's Swan Lake, Lamb’s Transit of Venus, and Goran Subotic’s What About Me?
A dance critic for The Day, Sharma Howard, described Aleksander Subotic as “Tall, regal and thundering with the conflicting emotions of the prince character, Aleksander Subotic commanded the stage with both an animal magnetism as well as the soaring, ethereal ideal of a man. Tender and attentive to his partner, Subotic displayed an adept command of artistic interpretation impressive for a young dancer.”
Not confined to a single stage, Aleksander has graced venues throughout New England and across the globe, including Jacob’s Pillow, Foxwoods Resort Casino, MGM Grand Theater, and international tours in Japan, Germany, Serbia, and Nicaragua. His teaching journey spans continents, offering master classes and TIC Technique contemporary workshops in prestigious cities worldwide.
In 2015, following the establishment of MYSTIC DARK ROOM, Aleksander and his father embarked on a creative journey, producing a unique line of conceptual works such as NOTTOBe, GRAB, Flash!, Nutcracker Spectacular, and The Little Mermaid, captivating audiences in the USA, Germany, Serbia, and Japan.
Beyond his captivating performances and choreographic ventures, Aleksander Subotic also serves as an educator. When not displaying his grape-tossing skills, he imparts his expertise by teaching TIC Technique and Contemporary at the School of Mystic Ballet.
In 2016, Aleksander ascended to the role of Assistant Artistic Director at Mystic Ballet, further solidifying his commitment to shaping the future of this esteemed dance company. His journey is a testament to his passion for the art form and his dedication to pushing the boundaries of dance on both national and international stages.
