Sergei Vanaev
Sergei Vanaev is recognized internationally as an accomplished dancer, teacher
and Artistic Director. He assumed the position of Assistant Artistic Director
and Resident Choreographer of Mystic Ballet and the School of Mystic Ballet
in 2007.
Sergei Vanaev received his training at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow.
Vanaev has been involved in the dance world for over 22 years, working mostly
in Russia and Germany. After spending 16 years as principal dancer, with The
Moscow Classical Ballet, Deutsche Opera Rhein in Dusseldorf, Oper Der Sadt Bonn,
and Theater Der Stadt Dortmund, Vanaev made the transition into management when
he was appointed ballet master and co-director of the Theater Dortmund.
As Artistic Director of Bremerhaven Ballet, Vanaev has defined the Company's
image with his own classical and neo-classical works, ranging from full-length
ballets to contemporary works and world premiers. As a guest choreographer his
works are performed throughout Europe, North America, and Japan.
As Assistant Artistic Director, Vanaev will create numerous world premieres
for Mystic Ballet during his tenure as Resident Choreographer. He will also
stage various works for the Company and work with the School of Mystic Ballet,
teaching classical ballet, partnering, modern and choreography.
Mr.Vanaev was recently honored by the Legendary Russian Prima Ballerina, Maya
Plisetskaya, when she presented him with the Maya Plisetskaya Prize for Best
Choreography of the Year 2006, stating, "What you've done, Sergei, has
it's own soul and unparalleled quality."
