HISTORY
The Academy of Ballet and Performing Arts, Dance Palace was founded in 1992
by Desireé and Goran Subotic.
In 1997, the Academy became the home of Mystic Ballet. In 1999, Goran brought
the distinguished prima ballerina and pedagogue Madam Alla Osipenko, former
prima ballerina with Kirov Ballet and one of the last protégés
of Agrippina Vaganova. Madam Osipenko laid a foundation for developing an extraordinary
program for education based on the Vaganova method.
The Company, and School under the leadership of Artistic Director, and Director
of Education, Desiree Subotic, has earned a reputation as one of the major ballet
companie and educational institution in New England.
Marking its 10th Anniversary, in April of 2007 Mystic Ballet appointed Assistant
Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Sergei Vanaev, who was selected
to lead Mystic Ballet's new Artistic vision for the next five seasons.
Under his exceptional artistic direction, Mystic Ballet will present choreography
of the highest caliber and offer a great variety in repertoire for the older
audience, allowing dancers to grow in new directions. August of 2007 started
the new era, with the premier of "Sonata"- choreographed by Sergei
Vanaev, receiving a standing ovation at the Garde Arts Center - New London.
