This production has a run time of 1 hr and 15 minutes with one intermission. -This contemporary version of Swan Lake’s Act II is choreographed by Bolshoi trained Sergei Vanaev, to the dramatic score of Tchaikovsky. After an acclaimed debut in Europe, this powerful avant-garde retelling premières in the US. The artists of Mystic Ballet unravel a story of love, betrayal, and sacrifice through the lives of two brothers; one fighting for his place in life and the other for the throne. -Back by popular demand is “Sun and Steel” by Lauren Edson. Following Mystic Ballet’s performances of this exhilarating piece at the Salvatore Capezio Theater in NYC in January, it returns to Connecticut for an encore performance. — US and world premieres for local audiences, prior to national and international touring, this underscores the deep commitment to a wide-ranging spectrum of classical and contemporary repertoire which has been central to Mystic Ballet’s mission from its inception. Artistic Director Goran Subotic developed the Dynamic Directions Series to showcase Mystic Ballet’s dance-makers. Sergei Vanaev who has been inextricably bound to Mystic Ballet since its early years debuts his second ballet for the season combining his Bolshoi background with his own unique ingenuity. A powerful work by Lauren Edson, highlights the artistry and athleticism of the dancers, and displays Lauren’s pure and raw expression of rhythm and bodies.
