American, Serbian – Born in Phoenix AZ.
Education: Mystic Ballet Academy – under Goran Subotic, Denise Lewis, Vladimir Putenko. Attended Miami City Ballet, The Harid Conservatory, and American Ballet Theatre Summer Programs on full scholarship.
His repertoire with Mystic Ballet includes works by Sidra Bell, Stephan Thoss, Jozsef Czaba Hajzer, Brian Enos, Sergei Vanaev, Lauren Edson, Gabrielle Lamb, Austin McCormick and Goran Subotic.
He earned critical praise for his performance in Mystic Ballet’s Swan Lake:
“Tall, regal and thundering with the conflicting emotions of the prince character, Aleksander Subotic commanded the stage with both an animal magnetism as well as the soaring, ethereal ideal of a man. Tender and attentive to his partner, Subotic displayed an adept command of artistic interpretation impressive for a young dancer.”
He performed a duet with Gabrielle Lamb in her own work Transit of Venus at Jacob’s Pillow in 2012.
Lamb paired with Aleksander Subotic for her haunting work titled “Transit of Venus.” The brief piece was a glimpse into something tantalizing, dreamily executed as if a mirage. The two dancers, both lean, tall and sinewy, were well-paired. – Dance critic Sharma Howard for The Day.
“Aleksander Subotic takes control of the stage with a mix of authority and grace.” – Nancy Burns Fusaro, Westerly Sun
He has performed throughout New England and internationally. In the summer of 2013 he returned to Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out Series for 2 performances: Lauren Edson’s Imaginary Love and Sun & Steel, and in the lead role of Mystic Ballet’s performance of Sergei Vanaev’s Swan Lake, (restaged by G. Subotic) which concluded with a standing ovation. Subotic has performed the role of Drosselmeyer/Rat King in Mystic Ballet’s Nutcracker Spectacular at Foxwoods Resort Casino’s Fox Theater and MGM Grand Theater.
Dance critic, Sharma Howard, for the The Day – “Drosselmeyer, is danced by Aleksander Subotic who’s authoritative carriage commands the stage, all the more impressive when takes flight with explosive, high leaps and slices the air with razor sharp extensions.”
His repertory includes leading roles performed in venues around the world including: FoxTheater, Foxwoods Resort Casino, and MGM Grand, Japan: Osaka, Subaru Hall, Kanazawa Cultural Hall; Tokyo, Hoya Komorebi Hall; Nicaragua, Teatro National Managua; Europe: Stadttheater Bremerhaven, Germany, Bitef Theater, Belgrade , Terazije Theater Belgrade, Serbia.
As a master teacher, and essential part of the creation of Mystic Ballet’s unique TIC technique, Subotic has taught master classes and workshops throughout Europe – Paris, Milan, London and Frankfurt as well as in Japan, Taiwan and Australia.
